JUNE KEY POINTS

TREND ESTIMATES

  • The trend estimate for sheep slaughterings rose for the tenth consecutive month, to 1.0 million. Dry seasonal conditions and poor pasture quality throughout much of south-eastern Australia has continued to influence slaughter numbers.
  • The trend estimate for mutton production rose for the eleventh consecutive month, to 21,400 tonnes.
  • The trend estimate for pig slaughterings rose for the fifth consecutive month, to 461,700. The industry remains concerned about the prospect of increased pig meat imports into Australia.
